Swerving violently towards the worse of two choices.

Three labels: the car, the road it should have stayed on, and the exit it takes instead. The car is the person or thing making the decision.

The two signs are not equal. The straight-ahead one is correct and boring; the exit is wrong and irresistible. Getting them the wrong way round is the most common error, because the exit is on the left and reads first.

The car label is optional but nearly always improves it. Without it the reader has to guess who is swerving.

Common mistakes

Putting the good option on the exit. The car is committing to the sign it swerves for.
Leaving the car unlabelled, so the decision has no owner.
Text over the sky rather than on the signs — the boards are narrow and easy to miss.
